Following the announcement by the Prime Minister regarding the “Rule of 6”, we have been trying to establish exactly what this means for us at Halifax West End Golf Club.

The advice received, is that, as the Golf Club is still in a lockdown area, then the existing rules take precedence.

In effect, this means that indoors, as previously advised, only people from the same household, or bubble, can sit together at a table.

It has become apparent during the week that, unfortunately, this procedure has not been followed by many of our Members.

With immediate effect therefore we are going to have to take all bench seating out of use and only one chair will be set up at each table. We appreciate this is a major inconvenience for Members, however, it has become unavoidable.

At least one local Club has had visits from the Council regarding the fact that they are not adhering to these rules, and have been advised that additional steps to safeguard Members must be taken or the Club House may have to be closed.

On an additional note it has now been decreed that face masks should be worn, not only in the Pro shop, but also in all other areas for the Club, with the exception of the bar and dining areas whilst eating and drinking.

Below is an extract taken from the England Golf web site:

– What are the regulations on the wearing of face coverings in the clubhouse, Professional’s shop and indoor areas of a golf facility?

A – From Saturday 8 August, face coverings must be worn by members of the public in all indoor areas of the club/ facility as well as in Pro shops. Coverings may be removed in bar and restaurant areas for the purpose of eating and drinking. There are some exemptions to wearing face coverings including children under the age of 11 and those with certain disabilities. Clubs should refer to government guidance to ensure compliance.

We would therefore ask that all Members wear a face mask when entering the Club House, and, when they are in areas other than the bar and dining areas.
As a Club, we can only ask that Members take full responsibility for their own actions, and, that at all times, they abide by the rules that we have legally been forced to introduce.

We would greatly appreciate your support and understanding in adhering to the new rules and can only apologise for any inconvenience to all our Members but there are no other options available to us.
