Today has seen the end of the first week since lockdown restrictions were eased, allowing Clubs to offer social golf to members. I hope many of you will have taken advantage of the good weather and been able to enjoy getting back to playing golf.

The return to golf last week brought with it, certain restrictions, some Government imposed, some designed by the Club, in line with advice from golf's key representative bodies.

Recognising a likely huge demand to get out on the course, mixed with limited tee times and reduced group size, we decided that a form of 'booking rationing' was required to give all members a better chance of playing.

Integral to limiting bookings was the booking system itself; we configured the booking window to seven days. Since Wednesday was the first day back, that first window ran from 13 – 19 May inclusive. For the foreseeable future, the rolling, seven-day window will follow the same pattern, covering Wednesdays to Tuesdays.

The booking plan included the following requirements:

- Members only; no guests or visitors
- Group sizes of no more than two
- A maximum of 3 pre-booked rounds per 7 day period (Wednesday-Tuesday)

Evidence from the first week indicates that a small number of members played more than three times, where bookings were made in advance of the day of play.

It is important to remember that every time a member does this it restricts other members' opportunities.

We are drawing a line under last week's booking issues, however, during the course of the week, we developed reports which will more easily identify those who pre-book more than three rounds.

Given that many bookings for the second playing week, starting tomorrow, have already commenced, we ran this report yesterday and have already identified those who have pre-booked more than the maximum three tee times.

We are asking ALL members to please check their bookings for the seven days from tomorrow and to remove any pre-bookings beyond the maximum of three. Failure to do so by close of play tomorrow may result in the Club removing bookings arbitrarily, in the best interests of all other members.

Please note that it does not matter whether you have made the booking yourself or that you have been booked by another member, the ONLY criteria is the number of times you are due to play.

Remember these restrictions are not permanent. The moment we can ease back and manage tee times less restrictively, we will.

Alongside the booking restrictions, we built in the flexibility of same day bookings. This means that on any given day, should there be tee times available, a member can book for that day, and therefore, it is possible for a member to play every day; but not to pre-book more than three tee times in advance of the day of play.

Members are also reminded of the Government's social distancing regulations as they apply to the Club. Just like everywhere else, we go to exercise, we can only meet up with a single person from another household; this is why playing groups are restricted to two people.

Even in these circumstances, the two metre rule applies and therefore any gatherings outside of the pair in which you are playing contravenes Government requirements and those of the Club. The two metre rule does not offer an opportunity for more than the playing pair to meet up for a coffee at the halfway hut, or a chat around the Club grounds. For everyone's safety please adhere to this rule.

The need for this message to members has been driven by the actions of the few; the vast majority of our members understand what the Club is looking to achieve for our members and why.

I hope the position is now clear, with definitive expectations.

Looking forward, we have a pretty good, medium term, weather forecast and that means lots of golf is possible. Enjoy your golf, and when you do play, please respect the safety of all others, and abide by social distancing, at all times.
